Sewing machine cover

Call social services. I abuse my sewing machine. Poor thing works so hard for me, and I leave it in front of an open window, uncovered, for half of the year. Dust, rain (like it ever rains in New Mexico), sunlight (there’s plenty of that!)…

It was high time for a cover for my sewing machine, something to offer it a little protection from its mean old mommy and the elements. I found a quick and easy cover tutorial on Sew4Home. It really does take just minutes to make this, and my sewing room looks much prettier for it!

I found this project at Sew4Home, where there are lots of great sewing ideas.

The process

I have this amazing sewing cabinet that I found on Craigslist for $90, delivered! My machine sits in a little hole so that it’s flush with the top of the cabinet. I wanted a cover that was short enough to accommodate the fact that several inches of the machine are below deck.

Off topic, I prefer a stool to a big ol’ chair, since my space is small. I like having the window there because I can spy on neighbors. My husband calls me Gladys Kravitz. The downside is trying to pretend nobody is home when solicitors come by.

Oh, come now. I don’t look anything like this.
Do I? No. No I don’t. Please disregard the 400 bottles of booze in the background. That has nothing to do with this.
Anyway … I seem to have veered off topic. Sometimes I am known to do that.
My awesome table also drops down so you can access the full machine. Most of the time I have the table up.
A pretty cover! Once my cabinet is closed up, it’s very nice and tidy. As you can see above, it holds pretty much all of my supplies, including books. Patterns and fabrics don’t fit, but everything else does. It’s great for tight spaces like mine.
