Dog car seat protector

I came across this neat little idea at the blog Exscapes. It’s a little hammock/cover to protect your seat from your dog and to protect your dog from your bad driving. I thought it was really cute and decided to make one. Only I don’t have a dog. But I do have a kid and a huge car seat taking up my entire back seat — a car seat that was recently installed really securely at one of those expert car seat clinics. So in the end, I decided against taking it out just for a quick picture. I know, I know. That makes this blog post sort of crummy, but safety first, right? So the picture at the top is borrowed from the original blog and the picture on the bottom is the super-cute-amazing adorable Warehouse Fabrics Inc. fabric that I used. It has little dogs, of course!

The pattern

This dog fabric is so cute. I just used a simple woven fabric for my backing, so my project differed from the original one because I didn’t use fleece. I also sewed mine differently. Instead of folding the main fabric around as a self-binding, I just laid mine right-sides together and sewed around, leaving a hole to turn it through. Then I pressed and top-stitched around the outer edge. The folded-under seam allowance of the hole was caught and closed in the top-stitching.
