Coordinating box pleat pillows

I’ve said it before: Throw pillows are a tremendous rip-off. They often run $20 or more a piece, and they are one of the easiest things to sew. So let’s just all protest by making our own! This project lets you have fun with box pleats and learn to do an envelope style back. Use coordinating or contrasting fabrics so that something special “peeks out” between the pleats. I found this project at Sew4Home.

Polka dot in Robin Mocha - POYROA

Plaid Savannah/bluestone - SAHBLE

Pillow forms
I had 1.25 yards of the polka dot fabric and 3/4 yard of the plaid, and they were more than enough. I did the backs of both of my pillows in the polka dot, but you can vary it up. I used a 16″x16″ and a 14″x14″ pillow form, which slip right into the envelope backs.
We also worked with box pleats in the valance tutorial, gardening apron and ottoman slipcover.

The pattern

This easy-to-make project can be found here at Sew4Home.com. Incidentally, I love their idea about recycling pillow forms. Simply store the pillow covers and use the forms in whatever pillow cover suits your mood at the time. Saves money and takes up less storage.
