October 2010

This velvety-flocked fabric is perfect for fall and the casual style of this handbag is big enough to lug lots of stuff around. This purse is fully lined and has a magnetic snap closure. Read the rest of this entry »

Each month we have a fabric at a special price. This coming month it’s the Lauranda Taupe, a vintage-look chenille floral. Regular price is $7.98 a yard, but for November only it will be $4.98 a yard. Order your samples early to take advantage of this price! Click the photo or the fabric name above to learn more about this lovely home dec fabric.

Pintucks are deceptively simple, and they are a great way to make a plain piece of fabric into something detailed and fancy. Make the pintucks before you cut out your pattern pieces. The method I’ll show you is how to make them using a specialized pintuck presser foot. You can also make them by creating and stitching folds into the fabric, which has a different look.

As I did this technique tutorial, I realized I wanted to make something with the pretty pintuck pieces, so I stitched them into simple lavender drawer sachets. Read the rest of this entry »

Our winner for this month’s $50 gift certificate is Barbara Erwin. Congratulations, Barbara! She has been sent an email and has 48 hours to reply and redeem her prize. Enjoy!

Everyone, please check back for November’s giveaway. There’s always another chance to win!

Call social services. I abuse my sewing machine. Poor thing works so hard for me, and I leave it in front of an open window, uncovered, for half of the year. Dust, rain (like it ever rains in New Mexico), sunlight (there’s plenty of that!)…

It was high time for a cover for my sewing machine, something to offer it a little protection from its mean old mommy and the elements. I found a quick and easy cover tutorial on Sew4Home. It really does take just minutes to make this, and my sewing room looks much prettier for it! Read the rest of this entry »

It’s time for our monthly drawing! You can win a $50 shopping spree at Warehouse Fabrics Inc.
It’s time to think about holiday sewing; Thanksgiving and Christmas always call for some pretty decor.

Entering is simple: just leave a comment below. ENTER SEPARATE COMMENTS FOR EACH, PLEASE! Each comment will count as “one” when I draw a random number, so when I count them out, you’ll want them to be on separate comments to increase your chances. You can enter several times by doing the following:

MANDATORY entry: Provide a link to a fabric you’re interested in that’s for sale at Warehouse Fabrics Inc. NOTE: This is not the fabric you have to purchase with your gift certificate if you win! Just share something that you like a lot.

CONTEST CLOSED. WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY!

1 bonus entry: Tell us what you’d like to make with that fabric (again, separate comment entry).

10 bonus entries: Add a photo of something you’ve made from a Warehouse Fabrics Inc. material to our Flickr group, which can be found here. ***This time, you do not have to cut and paste into 10 different comments. That would take a long time! Just provide your flickr screen name and I’ll do the work.***

Also, please make sure you include your e-mail address in the form (it isn’t visible to everyone else!) so we can contact the winner. The winner will be drawn randomly, but the more times you enter, the better your chances!

Name will be announced in a blog post next week. Drawing will close Monday, Oct. 18, at noon MDT.

Fine print: The winner’s name (or business name), city and state may be used by Warehouse Fabrics Inc. for promotional purposes.

Padded laptop case

I wish I had a laptop. And Internet on my cell phone. I have neither, but that didn’t stop me from making a laptop case. I thought this design from Crap I’ve Made (and, dang! I wish I’d thought of that name for my personal blog.) was so cute that I needed one anyway. I used my husband’s work computer for a model, but I’m pretty sure he won’t be caught dead hauling it around in this cute ruffled case with a flower.
Anyway, since most everyone besides me has a laptop (and Internet on their cell phone!), you might just want to give this a try! Read the rest of this entry »

This cute handbag has a strap that’s actually just two separate straps tied together at the top. It’s also fully reversible. No matter which way you have it, it will have a pocket inside and a pocket outside. The tab snap works from either direction. It’s an easy bag to make, so give it a try!
